Today begins a new and exciting chapter of my Life. Today marks the official ‘launch’ of my first online business venture, OM Made Studios. Woo hoo! So in the spirit of self-love and appreciation, I’ve decided to gift myself the coolest thing I could think of: the chance to make a Life instead of a Living.
Okay, so what exactly is a Life then when compared to a Living? I’m glad you asked . . .
When your goal is simply to make a Living, you take the safe road, abandon your dreams, and deprive the world of your authentic gifts.
When you set out to make a Life, you follow your passions wherever they lead, and go where your talents will shine the brightest and inspire the most.
When you make a Living, the days all seem to blend inarticulately together, a mere series of endless habits and routines.
When you make a Life, each day is based around meaning and purpose of both intent and action.
When you make a Living, the world seems harsh and cruel, built on a foundation of anxiety and fear; an empty, dull march towards boredom and oblivion.
When you make a Life, the world shines as an infinite arena of possibilities to explore, create, discover, and connect with others.
When you make a Living, selfishness comes first, debts are carefully measured and held in stone, and favors are done only for what you might gain in the end.
When you make a Life, helping others is a reward unto itself, without a concern for repayment or thanks.
When you make a Living, you pass judgment on those who don’t fulfill your expectations of how you believe they should be.
When you make a Life, you appreciate the uniqueness of each individual, respecting them for exactly the person they are without every asking or wishing them to change.
When you make a Living, you feel separated and cut-off from everyone else, seized with an aggressive desire to crush the competition and grab whatever you can.
When you make a Life, you see yourself in others from all walks of existence, and that clarity of vision naturally calms the heart and mind, bringing peace, understanding, appreciation, and equanimity.
When you make a Living, there’s no concern for the protection of the environment or the animals that call it their home; to you, this world is for human domination and consumption.
When you make a Life, you savor the natural abundance and beauty of the Earth and all its living inhabitants, respecting their native place in the unfolding tapestry of Life.
When you make a Living, you’re a lonely, isolated being scuttling about panic-stricken, trying just to survive.
When you make a Life, you know you’re part of a grand, cosmic wholeness that unites all sentient beings together as One Universal Essence.
When you make a Living, you engage with the world because it’s your duty.
When you make a Life, you engage with the world because it’s your pleasure.
When you make a Living, you’re more concerned with what others think of you.
When you make a Life, you’re happy and grateful just being Yourself.
Show up.
Pay attention.
Be Yourself.
