Board To Death

Acrylic on watercolor board, 20" x 30"

Humans love to enhance their self-image by acquiring more things, material possessions that go far beyond basic necessities like food, water, shelter, and clothing. This unconscious impulse has created our current consumerist-driven society and economic structure where the only measure of progress is more. As Eckhart Tolle wrote in A New Earth, “The unchecked striving for more, for endless growth, is a dysfunction and a disease. It is the same dysfunction the cancerous cell manifests, whose only goal is to multiply itself, unaware that it is bringing about its own destruction by destroying the organism of which it is part.” The collective expression of this global psychosis - the empty pursuit of material wealth - is most apparent in corporations whose only blind aim is profit at all costs.
